Day 3 The frost is gone

Day 3
Wednesday 20th November

The last to go to sleep last night was Kerys in the girl's dorm and Chris in the boy's dorm. The first ones to fall asleep were Adam, Kian, Aaron and Aaron. Hayden and Calum were the first awake this morning, chatting just before Mr Napier woke  everyone up at 7.30am. Today is going to be a lot warmer as it rained lightly over night which saw temperatures increase over night.

Mrs Gillies arrived safely and Mrs Gilbertson got home safely.

Groups have been mountain biking this morning, skiing, gorge walking and hill-walking/walking in snow shoes. Miss Gaunt has been gorge walking and got quite wet with her group (Aaron M, Sean, Amy, Emily, Skye, Freya, Mazin and Omar.) The river was quite full but also a little chilly.

Mrs Simpson was out with Aaron S, Tyler, Kikilee, Sam, Xinyi, Ava. Sophia, Lazaro, Aydin and Hayden. After one or two small tumbles at the start they were soon racing through the forest on the dirt tracks.

Mrs Gillies is out hillwalking/snow walking with Chris, Kian, Carmen, Sofia, Lucy, Callum, Gabi and Leah. We have been really lucky with the weather- normally there is a lot of rain falling at this time of year. We have had a day of sunshine, a day of frost and today is light winds and cloud. Perfect hill walking weather.

Mr Napier was skiing with Bradley, Owain, Adam, Kerys, Justina, Ellya, Laurie, Logan and Andrew. Ellya and Kerys showed their confidence having skied before, and were quick to show and support others before braving the higher slopes and showing their skills with turns. Owain struggled to master walking on the edge of the skis but persevered and was soon hurtling down the slopes and was justifiably proud of his efforts. Bradley found it hard at first, and was close to stopping but made the decision to keep on going. He was a master on the slopes but on his final run forgot to stop at the end of the slope and ended up on the grass, finding a rock to land on. The result is he is currently resting his ankle under an ice pack eating some medicinal biscuits and drinking juice. He is in very good spirits and will be rejoining everyone shortly.

Justina did not find skiing particularly easy but did not give up despite several falls. Laurie had her fair share of tumbles but built up speed when travelling down the slope as the morning progressed. Andrew was like a rocket by the end and quickly grasped the ski tow, snowplough and slowing down (quite a helpful skill!). Along with Logan and Owain, Andrew preferred this activity to any others so far. Mr Napier only fell once, but it was a really good fall.

Andrew's first run down the slope went well.

Kerys was very confident on the slopes.

Ellya had been skiing before and remembered her lessons from before, so was quick to move to the top of the slope.

This group are off gorge walking this afternoon and currently wrestling on teddy bear fleecy suits and red waterproofs.
Adam is all set to own the gorge walking.

Calum takes a wee tumble.

Mazin prepares to go down the slope.

Jamie does his best aeroplane impression.

Mrs Gillies climbs the indoor wall alongside Sofia, while fellow group members man the anchor ropes.

Snow shoes on they follow the ski slope on the Cairngorms.

Just to reassure you- Sofia has a safety rope on!

Coolest dudes in town. Literally.

Carmen, Gabi and Callum stormed it to the top. Leah, Kian and Chris found it harder going but made it to the top. Chris is in disguise in the middle of the photo.

Races to the top on the indoor climbing wall.

Xinyi giving it her all at the archery.

Aydin going for a good grouping with his arrows.

Gorge walking.

Preparing themselves mentally for the cold.

If school camp could be summed up in a picture, this would be it.

Watching our footing on the gorge.

No we are done.

Jamie adopting a four by four mode.

Freya just chilling, standing under a waterfall.

Everyone is now in bed. We did a scavenger hunt tonight then had a film evening with hot chocolate. Tomorrow there is mountain biking for some, gorge walking for others. Then the disco, some bag packing and then we are heading home on the Friday.  They are doing so well. They look out for each other, encourage each other and are giving their best. They are also drinking a lot of tea!
